【原因】：20世紀(jì)初，倫敦人大部分都使用煤作為家居燃料，產(chǎn)生大量煙霧。這些煙霧再加上倫敦氣候，造成了倫敦“遠(yuǎn)近馳名”的煙霞，英語(yǔ)稱為L(zhǎng)ondon Fog（倫敦霧）。因此，英語(yǔ)有時(shí)會(huì)把倫敦稱作“大煙”（The Smoke），倫敦并由此得名“霧都”。1952年12月5日至9日期間，倫敦?zé)熿F事件令4000人死亡，政府因而于1956年推行了《空氣清凈法案》，于倫敦部分地區(qū)禁止使用產(chǎn)生濃煙的燃料。時(shí)至今日，倫敦的空氣質(zhì)量已經(jīng)得到明顯改觀。
